Targeting the Causal Nexus of ALS |
Among the many devastating brain diseases that include Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and Dementia; ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) is somewhat unique in terms of how much we know about the biological chain of causation that leads to illness. The past two decades have led to the uncovering of vast amounts of information about the genetics, cell biology, and human physiology associated with ALS.
In this sense, ALS may be the "Rosetta Stone" of other Brain Diseases, and the development of knowhow for treating it is likely to be the key to solving the puzzles of Dementia, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's as well. And yet, for all the deep knowledge that we have of ALS biology, drug development efforts for this horrible disease have been plagued by tragic failure. We aim to take a new look at this old problem; to target mechanisms never before explored in the pursuit of ALS therapy. 1Base has assembled an unprecedented team of accomplished drug hunters and innovative scientists, to attempt a homerun drug program, based on a new vision for tackling ALS and other Brain Diseases. |
Metabolic Targets for ALS Therapy
Recently, we have come upon a key discovery: there is a common denominator to the many different forms of ALS. Familial, Sporadic, Bulbar onset, and Limb onset. There is a fundamental metabolic imbalance that is common to most forms of ALS, and it may even extend to other Brain Diseases like Dementia.
Our goal is to develop targeted medicines to correct these systemic and catastrophic metabolic dysfunctions that are rampant in Brain Diseases. This will lead to a new class of therapeutic compounds for ALS treatment. Equally as important: our unique biological assays for disease causation and progression enable us to test more effective therapeutics with grater speed. |
